McClain scores early
LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall scored four goals in a 23-minute, 2-second span to defeat McDaniel 4-1 in Centennial Conference (CC) men's soccer action on Sunday.
Michael McClain (Takoma Park, Md./Montgomery Blair) staked the Green Terror (3-7-2, 0-5 CC) to a 1-0 first-half lead.
Four different players scored for the Diplomats (7-3-1, 3-2 CC) in the final 25:31 of the game to turn that 1-0 deficit into a 4-1 victory.
Ryan O'Connell one-timed a Max Watson pass in the 65th minute to knot the game at 1-all.
Nearly 12 minutes later, Ryan Macomber sent a pass to Ben Beaver, who finished from the left side for the one-goal lead.
Just 46 seconds later, Alex Grassi blasted home a shot from the left edge of the box to stretch the lead to 3-1.
Shawn Ganow headed in a lofted cross from Sam Lane in the 88th minute for the final margin. It was the second assist of the day for Lane.
McClain headed in an Edgar Escobar (Silver Spring, Md./Silverbrook) cross from the right side for the 1-0 lead just 15:59 into the game.
Franklin & Marshall finished with an 18-8 advantage in shots, including 12-5 in the second half.
McDaniel returns to action at Catholic on Wednesday. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
