FREDERICK, Md. – McDaniel jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the game's first 13:31 en route to a 5-1 win over Hood in non-conference men's soccer action on Wednesday.
Max Rutherford (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) scored two goals for the Green Terror (3-4) and also added an assist. Shane McCracken (Marriottsville, Md./Liberty) added his team-leading eighth and ninth tallies of the year.
Ian McDonald tallied the lone goal for the Blazers (2-1-2), breaking up the shutout in the 29th minute.
Rutherford finished off an Andrew Hofmeister (Baltimore, Md./McDonogh) throw-in 4:50 into the game.
Just 8:23 later, Rutherford crossed a ball that McCracken finished inside the near post to double the advantage.
Richard Forka (Silver Spring, Md./John F. Kennedy) converted a penalty kick in the 14th minute to make it a 3-0 game.
McDonald put back his own miss at the 28:35 mark to make it a 3-1 game at the break.
John LaRocca (Gaithersburg, Md./Damascus) played a long ball over the top in the 69th minute that Rutherford was able to strike to the far post for a 4-1 lead.
In the 76th minute, Edgar Escobar (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook) played a thru ball to McCracken, who left-footed a ball to the back post for the final margin.
McDaniel finished with a 24-8 advantage in shots.
Zach Nibbelink (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) made three saves in his first 83:44 of action this season between the pipes.
McDaniel returns to action at home against Ursinus on Saturday. Game time is 1 p.m.
