Pair of relays break record

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Bryan Nuckles (Suffolk, Va./Nansemond-Suffolk Academy) led off the 200 free relay on Friday night, keying the first of two program-record performance to lead McDaniel at the 2012 Centennial Conference (CC) men's swimming championship hosted by Gettysburg on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The Green Terror amassed 161 points over the three days to finish seventh. Gettysburg easily won its 10th title with 846 points, outdistancing Dickinson by 222 points.

Jesse Mills (Catonsville, Md./Mt. St. Joseph), James Eu (Reston, Va./Hargrave Military Academy) and Patrick Rogers (Landisville, Pa./Hempfield) joined Nuckles on the record-setting 200 free relay that finished seventh with a time of 1:28.46.

Nuckles anchored the 200 medley relay, joining Stephen Hoyt (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury), Eu and Mills to finish seventh with a time of 1:38.51, setting a new program record in that event as well.

Nuckles also led off the 400 free relay, teaming with Rogers, Hoyt and Eu to finish seventh in a time of 3:6.83, which is third on the program's all-time list.

Nuckles added a ninth-place individual showing in the 50 free with a time of 21.60 seconds after qualifying for the B-finals with a 15th-place showing in the preliminaries (21.97).

He was also 13th in the 100 backstroke with a time of 59.61 in the finals and 22nd overall in the 100 butterfly. Despite not swimming in the fly finals, he still turned in a time of 56.21, which ranks ninth all-time.

Hoyt now ranks second all-time in the 100 butterfly and 200 backstroke. He finished 12th in the fly with a time of 53.98 and 10th in the back with a time of 2:00.53.

He also placed 14th in the 200 IM with a time of 2:01.19. Despite a 15th-place finish in the morning preliminaries, Hoyt actually swam a faster time. His time of 2:00.66 in the prelims ranks fifth all-time.

Rogers moved up to third place on the all-time performer list for the 500 free with his 13th-place time of 4:51.10 in the preliminaries. He dropped to 15th in the finals with a time of 4:52.89.

Rogers is also now fourth in the 200 free after a 12th-place time of 1:46.08 in the prelims. He finished 12th in the finals with a time of 1:46.71. He also just missed the finals of the 100 free but is now seventh all-time with a time of 49.53.

Mills was 13th in the 100 butterfly with a time of 54.51, which ranks fourth all-time.

Eu rounded out top-10 all-time performances with a 15th-place time of 1:02.37 in the 100 breaststroke prelims. He finished 16th with a time of 1:03.08 in the finals.

Andrew Widmann (Bowie, Md./DeMatha) was 14th in the 100 backstroke (1:01.08). Erik Brennan (Sicklerville, N.J./Sterling) just missed the finals in the event, placing 17th in a time of 1:04.63.

Jono Leafblad (Garnee, Ill./Warren Twp.) finished 15th in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:19.28.

Jason Harder (Philadelphia, Pa./Pennington) rounded out the weekend's individual events for McDaniel, finishing 15th in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:05.42.

Mills, Odierno, Leafblad and Widmann were seventh in the 800 free relay with a time of 8:04.63.
