SHENANDOAH, Texas – Freshman Brad Brooks (Newark, Del./Charter School of Wilmington) finished 10th in the 500 freestyle on the first day of the 2013 NCAA Division III men's swimming championship at Conroe ISD Natatorium on Wednesday.
In the morning prelims, Brooks finished fifth in his heat but with the 10th fastest time among the 35 entries to earn a spot in the consolation finals. Brooks bettered his previous program and Centennial Conference record by 1.39 seconds with a time of 4:29.70.
In the finals, he took another 0.4 seconds off that time, finishing with a time of 4:29.30 to place second in the consolation final in a tight race that saw the top five finishers separated by 1.46 seconds.
His time was better than three times in the championship finals.
For his efforts, he earns honorable mention All-America honors, becoming the first men's swimmer in program history to become an All-American.
Brooks will compete in the 1,650 freestyle on Saturday.
