Van Nevel notches three records

LANCASTER, Pa. – Paul Van Nevel (Gaithersburg, Md./Poolesville) was part of three program records to lead McDaniel at the 2017 Centennial Conference (CC) men's swimming championship hosted by Franklin & Marshall on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Scoring:

  • The Green Terror finished seventh with 216 points. Swarthmore claimed its first conference title with 720 points, outdistancing Gettysburg by 120 points at the seventh-team championship.

Night Warriors: The following athletes advanced to the finals at the championship:

  • Paul Van Nevel qualified 11th in the 200 IM on Friday with a time of 1:57.05. In the B Finals, he finished 11th with a time of 1:57.23. On Saturday, he qualified fifth in the 100 backstroke with a time of 52.57 seconds. In the A Finals, he finished fifth with a time of 52.42 seconds. On Sunday, he qualified sixth in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:55.45. In the A Finals, he finished fifth with a time of 1:54.72.
  • Andrew Gottfried (Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur) qualified 12th in the 400 IM on Saturday with a time of 4:19.43. In the B Finals, he finished 12th with a time of 4:17.15. On Sunday, he qualified 10th in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:58.73. In the B Finals, he finished 13th with a time of 1:58.71.
  • Justin Allen (Ashburn, Va./Broad Run) qualified sixth in the 100 breaststroke on Saturday with a time of 58.00 seconds. In the A Finals, he finished fifth with a time of 57.98 seconds. On Sunday, he qualified sixth in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:08.96. In the A Finals, he finished seventh with a time of 2:10.79.
  • Adam Halmy (Shenandoah, Texas/College Park) qualified 16th in the 100 backstroke on Saturday with a time of 56.12 seconds. In the B Finals, he finished 15th with a time of 55.67 seconds.

Record Setting Performance: The following athletes established a record at the championship:

  • The 400 medley relay of Paul Van Nevel, Justin Allen, Grayson Blanchard (Germantown, Md./Seneca Valley) and Adam Halmy turned in a program-record time of 3:32.17.
  • Paul Van Nevel turned in a program-record performance in the 100 backstroke with a time of 52.42 seconds, resetting his record from the morning prelims.
  • Van Nevel also turned in a program-record performance in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:54.72.
  • Andrew Gottfried turned in a program-record performance in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:58.71, resetting his record from the morning prelims.
  • The 200 medley relay of Paul Van NevelJustin AllenGrayson Blanchard and Adam Halmy turned in a program-record performance with a time of 1:36.16, finishing sixth.
