Five different Green Terror athletes earn CC qualifiers

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Fonati Quinn (Gaithersburg, Md./Richard Montgomery) hit a pair of Centennial Conference (CC)-qualifying standards in his first action for McDaniel, leading the way at the 2010 Bucknell Opener in men's indoor track and field action on Saturday.

In the team's first action of the season, five different Green Terror athletes hit CC marks, including Quinn and Joe Rollins (Temple Hills, Md./Surrattsville), who were qualifiers in two events.

Quinn jumped a distance of 13.51 meters in the triple jump – a leap that is fifth all-time – to finish sixth. He added a 13th-place showing in the long jump with a jump of 6.26 meters.

Rollins hit the necessary standard in both the 60 and 200. He finished the 60 in a time of 7.34 seconds to finish 31st overall and crossed 18th overall in the 200 with a time of 23.99.

Jake Nichols (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) and Eric Spioch (Westminster, Md./Westminster) hit the qualifying mark in the 60-meter hurdles. Nichols was 17th overall with a time of 9.26 seconds while Spioch was 23rd overall in a time of 10.01.

C.J. Naper (New Windsor, Md./South Carroll) finished second in the mile with a CC-qualifying time of 4:34.81.

The Green Terror sent a trio of competitors to the Dickinson Holiday Invitational. Cody Shives was fifth in the high jump, clearing 1.62 meters. David Sampson (Philadelphia, Pa./Charter High School for Architecture and Design) finished 18th in the 55 (7.30 seconds) and shot put (8.78 meters) while Carlos Hernandez (Derwood, Md./Magruder) was 16th in the shot with a toss of 10.53 meters.

The Green Terror returns to action at the Gulden Relays hosted by Bucknell on Jan. 8.
