Green Terror notches five qualifiers at Mary Washington

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Jake Nichols (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) finished fifth in the 110 hurdles to lead McDaniel at the Battleground Relays hosted by Mary Washington in men's outdoor track and field action on Friday and Saturday.

As a team, the Green Terror recorded five Centennial Conference (CC) qualifiers, including Nichols' 17.24 seconds in the finals of the 110 hurdles.

Eric Spioch (Westminster, Md./Westminster) finished sixth in the same event with a time of 17.80 seconds. Spioch was sixth in the prelims (17.97) while Nichols was seventh (18.09).

Nichols also hit the qualifying standard in the 400 hurdles, finishing eighth with a time of 1:02.48.

Juris Eyler (Middletown, Md./Middletown) crossed 12th in the 100 with a CC-qualifying time of 11.63 seconds.

CJ Naper (New Windsor, Md./South Carroll) finished eighth in the 1,500 with a conference-qualifying time of 4:10.53 to round out the qualifiers in the first meet of the outdoor season.

Spioch added a seventh-place showing in the triple jump (11.25 meters) while Nichols was eighth in the javelin (36.24).

The distance medley relay of Naper, Eyler, Jake Zamostny (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll) and Ron Shriver (Westminster, Md./Francis Scott Key) placed seventh (11:10.65).

McDaniel returns to action at the Jopson Invitational hosted by Bridgewater on Saturday.
