Shriver wins 3K

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – Ron Shriver (Westminster, Md./Francis Scott Key) won the 3,000 meters to lead McDaniel at the Jopson Invitational hosted by Bridgewater in men's track and field action on Saturday.

Shriver won the event with a time of 9:58.51 as the only competitor in the field to break 10 minutes.

The Green Terror recorded a total of seven top-three finishes at the non-scoring meet.

Jonathan Snack won the pole vault as the only competitor to clear a height, clearing 3.05 meters.

Carlos Herandez (Derwood, Md./Magruder) was second in the discus with a hurl of 37.34 meters – one of seven throwing Centennial Conference (CC) qualifiers for the team. McDaniel had a total of 12 qualifying marks on the day.

Calvin Ball (Westminster, Md./Westminster) was third in 5,000 meters with a personal-best time of 17:49.97.

Woody Butler (Smithsburg, Md./Middletown) added three third-place showings and a fourth. He finished third in the high jump with a mark of 1.72 meters. He was also third in the shot put (12.73) and javelin (44.98) and was fourth in the discus (34.66).

Hernandez was also sixth in the shot put (12.19) and ninth in the javelin (33.65). his shot put mark was a conference qualifier.

Jake Nichols (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) added three qualifying marks in the five events in which he competed. His qualifiers came in the 110 hurdles (eighth, 17.03 seconds), discus (eighth, 33.04 meters) and 100 (16th, 12.13 seconds). He was also eighth in the javelin (33.88 meters) and 10th in the shot put (10.82).

Louis Lachman (Woodstock, Md./Marriots Ridge) and Caleb Phillips (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) hit CC marks in the 400, finishing eighth (54.06 seconds) and 10th (54.92), respectively.

Phillips, Nichols and Lachman joined Brad Heavner (Frederick, Md./Urbana) on the 4x400-meter relay, which crossed fourth in a time of 3:40.16.

James Ways (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) was seventh in the javelin (37.36 meters).

Jason Stein (Potomac, Md./Thomas S. Wootten) was fourth in the 3,000 with a time of 10:54.15.

The Green Terror returns to action at the Towson Invitational on Saturday.
