Butler finishes fourth in javelin
BALTIMORE, Md. – Woody Butler (Smithsburg, Md./Middletown) finished fourth in the javelin to lead McDaniel to a 10th-place finish at the Hopkins/Loyola Invitational in men's outdoor track and field action on Saturday.
The Green Terror netted 13 points on the day. Johns Hopkins won the meet with 183 points.
Butler recorded a throw of 52.79 meters to have the first of two McDaniel scorers in the javelin. Chuck Kronmiller (Norristown, Pa./Methacton) was sixth in the event with a toss of 47.64 meters. The duo accounted for two of the Green Terror's six Centennial Conference (CC)-qualifying efforts on the day.
Butler also hit the CC marks in the shot put (12.42) with a 13th-place showing and the discus (34.80) with a 17th-place finish.
Jake Nichols (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) added a pair of qualifying marks, finishing 10th in the pole vault (3.66) and 22nd in the discus (33.47). He was also 21st in the javelin (34.54) and 25th in the shot put (10.70).
Kromiller hit the CC mark in the discus as well with a throw of 31.12 meters.
Nichols also joined Matthew Peterson (Littleton, Colo./Lakewood), Peter Merkel (Ellicott City, Md./Homeschool) and Ron Shriver (Westminster, Md./Francis Scott Key) to finish fifth in the 4x800-meter relay with a time of 8:38.75.
Lachman finished 38th in the 200 with a time of 24.36 seconds.
Shriver was 29th in the 800 (2:10.00) while Merkel and Peterson were 24th (4:18.16) and 32nd (4:32.00), respectively, in the 1,500.
Shriver was also 26th in the javelin with a throw of 30.37 meters.
Jason Stein (Potomac, Md./Thomas S. Wootton) rounded out the track competitors with a 36th-place finish in the 1,500 (4:57.28).
James Ways (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) finished 16th in the javelin with a toss of 38.07 meters.
Kyle Dunn (Crofton, Md./South River) was 25th in the shot put (10.70) and 35th in the discus (25.79).
Alexander Murchison (Edgewood, Md./Archbishop Curley) was 29th in the shot put (9.50) and 32nd in the discus (28.51) while Jeff Thompson (Salisbury, Md./Mardela) was 28th in the javelin (27.06) and 37th in the discus (19.57).
The Green Terror returns to action at its own home twilight meet on Tuesday. Action begins at 4 p.m.
