TROY, N.Y. – Jake Nichols (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) finished eighth with 5,645 points, competing for McDaniel in the decathlon at the 2012 ECAC Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championship hosted by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on Thursday and Friday.
Nichols matched a season best in the pole vault, clearing 3.81 meters. It was one of two third-place individual event finishes he notched in the 11-person field. He was also third in the discus with a toss of 33.13 meters.
He was fourth in the final of the 10 events, finishing the 1,500 in a time of 4:53.84.
Nichols was seventh in the javelin with a throw of 38.44 meters. He was eighth in the 100 (11.82 seconds) and shot put (10.58 meters) for his best day-one finishes.
He ended day one with a ninth-place showing in the 400 (53.46 seconds) and opened the second day with a ninth-place finish in the 110 hurdles (17.09).
He was 10th in the long jump (5.75 meters) and 11th in the high jump (1.67) to round out the events.
