Jones finishes 102nd in first 8K

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – In a meet that featured 35 complete teams and 389 runners, Chris Jones (Centreville, Va./Centreville) finished 102nd overall to lead McDaniel to a 20th-place finish at the Gettysburg Invitational in men's cross country action on Saturday.

The Green Terror finished with 634 points in the meet that included teams from all levels. Division II Lock Haven won the 8,000-meter event with 50 points. McDaniel was 12th among the Division III teams.

Jones, running his first 8K race, finished with McDaniel's 17th-best time all-time on the course with his time of 27:42. He is now 10th on the all-time performers' list.

Peter Merkel (Ellicott City, Md./Homeschool) was 112th with a time of 27:50, which was 21st-best time on the course. He moved into 11th place on the performers' list as well.

Calvin Ball (Westminster, Md./Westminster) crossed 206th with a time of 29:06.

Colin LaPlenta (Morristown, N.J./Morristown) and Graham Miles (Hartford, Conn./Kingswood-Oxford) rounded out the Green Terror competitors in 242nd (29:50) and 249th (29:59), respectively.

McDaniel returns to action at Centennial Conference Championship hosted by Haverford on Saturday, Oct. 27. Action begins at 11 a.m.
