WESTMINSTER, Md. – Chris Jones (Centreville, Va./Centreville) won the 3,000-meter race to lead McDaniel to a second-place finish at its own Green Terror Challenge in men's cross country action on Saturday.
Joone finished the race in a time of 10:01 to turn in the fourth-best time in program history on the course.
As a team, the Green Terror recorded 22 points in the 3K and 57 points in the earlier 5K. Combined, McDaniel finished second to Mary Washington with 79 total points. Mary Washington combined to score 56 points.
Peter Merkel (Ellicott City, Md./Homeschool) finished second to Jones in the 3K with a time of 10:09 after doubling back off the 5K, in which he was the first non-Navy runner to cross the line. Merkel placed 12th in a time of 17:29.
Calvin Ball (Westminster, Md./Westminster) also doubled in both races, finishing 12th in the 3K (10:53) and 30th in the 5K (18:40). Keegan Duesterhaus (Spartanburg, S.C./Spartanburg Day) was 13th in the 3K (11:05) and 31st in the 5K (19:20).
Jim Heilman (Lutherville, Md./Baltimore Lutheran) placed 23rd in the 5,000-meter race with a time of 18:03.
The Green Terror returns to action at the York Invitational on Saturday. The first race begins at 10 a..m.
