McDaniel wins opener at Sweet Briar
SWEET BRIAR, Va. – Samantha Staub (Mt. Airy, Md./Linganore) went 3-for-3 with an RBI and run scored to lead McDaniel to a 5-3 victory at Sweet Briar in non-conference softball action on Sunday.
The Green Terorr (1-0) plated two runs in the top of the seventh to
break a 3-all deadlock with the Vixens (0-3) before having the
second game of the scheduled twinbill called after the first inning
because of snow and poor field conditions.
Trailing 3-0, Staub and Lauren Wildasin (Thurmont,
Md./Catoctin) led off the visitor fifth with back-to-back
singles. A Megan Elfert (Finksburg,
Md./Westminster) walked loaded the bases before a one-out
error allowed both Staub and Wildasin to score, pulling McDaniel
within 3-2.
Back-to-back doubles from Kristina Skinner (Westminster,
Md./Westminster) and Staub knotted the game at 3-all in
the top of the sixth.
Kelli Workmeister (Baltimore, Md./Catholic) led
off the seventh with a walk before stealing second and advancing to
third on a wild pitch.
With one out, Lauren Fusco (Laurel, Md./St. Vincent
Pallotti) singled to plate Workmeister before following
Workmeister’s path on the bases, stealing second and
advancing to third on a wild pitch.
A Beth Ann Fusco (Laurel, Md./St. Vincent
Pallotti) sacrifice fly scored her younger sister to set
the final margin.
Mattie Witt drew a walk to lead off the second
before stealing second and scoring on a Blair
Passagaluppi RBI single.
An error and Roshel MacGorman home run in the
bottom of the third pushed the lead to 3-0.
Christina Morley (North Wales, Pa./Archbishop
Wood) struck out three in the complete-game win in the
circle.
The Green Terror returns to action at Bridgewater on Saturday. The
first game of the doubleheader begins at 2 p.m.
