BRIDGEWATER, Va. – Ashley Gills pitched a no-hitter, striking out 10 in Bridewater’s 7-0 game-one victory over McDaniel in non-conference softball action on Saturday.
The Eagles (2-0) broke out the bats early in game two, exploding
for 11 runs before cruising to a 17-0 win in five
innings.
The Green Terror (1-2) was limited to just three hits in the
nightcap.
Hillary Rees doubled to lead off the home first in
the opener before stealing third and scoring on an Emily
Morris RBI single for a 1-0 lead.
That one run would prove to be all Gills needed but the Bridgewater
offense tacked on six runs in the fifth. Morris keyed the frame
with a three-run home run.
Eight of the first nine batters all recorded hits in the first
inning of game two, including a Morris two-run double and
Kristen Combs double with the bases loaded that
cleared the bags and chased starting pitcher Kelly Toms
(Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown).
A Kaitlyn Bowman two-run bomb capped the 11-run
frame.
The Eagles tacked on three runs in each the third and fourth
innings.
Morris had a two-run home run in the third as part of her six-hit,
12-RBI doubleheader.
The Green Terror returns to action at Mary Baldwin on Sunday. The
first game of the doubleheader begins at 1 p.m.
