WESTMINSTER, Md. – RiRi Ferrigno rapped out six hits with five RBIs and three runs scored to lead Muhlenberg to a doubleheader sweep of McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) softball action on Saturday.
The Mules (16-11, 10-2 CC) took a 9-0 victory in six innings in
game one before completing the sweep the sweep with an 11-0 win in
the nightcap.
Ashley Brewer and Alyssa Bruckner
limited the Green Terror (11-14, 2-6 CC) to just seven hits in its
eighth and ninth shutouts of the season.
A leadoff error and sacrifice bunt followed by three singles in the
top of the first inning staked Muhlenberg to an early 2-0
lead.
Doubles from Brewer and Ferrigno drove in three runs in the top of
the second to stretch the lead to 5-0 before the Mules tacked on
two more in the third for a 7-0 lead.
Shelby Smith drew a leadoff walk in the sixth
inning before a Brewer single put runners at first and
second.
Ferrigno followed with an RBI single and Brittany
Blohm added a sacrifice fly to set the final
margin.
Brewer struck out three in the two-hit game-one
shutout.
A two-run Ferrigno single and RBI doubles from Jess
Kasza and Maggie Scarpelli gave
Muhlenberg a 4-0 lead in the third inning of game two.
A two-run single from Scarpelli in the fifth stretched the lead to
6-0 before a Kasza sacrifice fly plated Blohm in the top of the
sixth to push the lead to 7-0.
Four straight hits, capped by a Blohm two-run single to go with a
Kasza RBI base knock in the visitor seventh set the final
margin.
Lauren Toomey (Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville Area) and
Erinne Warrenfeltz (Smithsburg, Md./Middletown)
each had two hits for McDaniel in game two.
The Green Terror returns to action at Ursinus on Sunday. The first
game of the doubleheader begins at 1 p.m.
