Gettysburg sweeps McDaniel for final playoff spot

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Erin Ober recorded four hits and five RBIs to lead Gettysburg to a doubleheader sweep of McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) softball action on Saturday.

The Bullets (26-9-1, 11-4-1 CC) took the opener 5-2 before holding off the Green Terror (13-20, 3-11 CC) in the seventh inning for a 4-3 victory, claiming the conference’s fourth and final playoff spot.
Brittany Jarboe (Baltimore, Md./Seton Keough) and Jordan Beans (Hanover, Pa./Hanover) had two hits apiece for McDaniel.
In the bottom of the first, Ober drove in Nicole Yannotta before stealing second, advancing to third on a wild pitch and scoring on a throwing error for a 2-0 lead.
An error, passed ball, stolen base and sacrifice fly trimmed the lead in half in the top of the second.
An Ober single up the middle scored Yannotta in the bottom of the third to stretch the lead back to two before the Green Terror once again closed the deficit to one on a Megan Elfert (Finksburg, Md./Westminster) single in the top of the sixth.
A Caitlin Bay two-run triple in the bottom of the inning set the final margin.
In game two, doubles from Ober and Sarah Woodbury staked the Bullets to a 2-0 lead in the third before Ober cracked a two-run home run to left field to double the advantage in the fifth.
A two-run triple from Kristina Skinner (Westminster, Md./Westminster) and a Beans RBI single pulled McDaniel within 4-3 in the top of the seventh with one out but Beth McCullough got a pair of flyouts to strand the potential tying run on first base.
McCullough struck out 10 in the nightcap to improve to 13-3 after Kristy Rubino fanned five in the opener to move to 12-6.
The Green Terror concludes the conference schedule at Swarthmore on Sunday. The first game of the doubleheader begins at 1 p.m.
