McDaniel forges split at Muhlenberg
Green Terror plates two runs in eighth of game two for win
ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Erinne Warrenfeltz (Smithsburg, Md./Middletown) rapped out a two-run double in the top of the eighth inning of game two to help her own cause and lead McDaniel to a Centennial Conference (CC) softball doubleheader split at Muhlenberg on Saturday.
Warrenfeltz finished with three hits for the Green Terror (12-18, 2-8 CC), including two in the 9-7 nightcap victory that snapped the team's 10-game losing streak. The Mules (11-16, 6-8 CC) took game one, 2-1.
Trailing 6-3 entering the sixth inning of game two, Lindsey Blohm (Bel Air, Md./Toms River North [N.J.]) led off with an infield single before advancing to second on a wild pitch and third on a groundout.
A Brittany Jarboe (Baltimore, Md./Seton Keough) single put runners at the corners before a Beth Ann Fusco (Laurel, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) single scored Blohm and moved Jarboe to third.
After Fusco stole second, Jordan Beans (Hanover, Pa./Hanover) doubled to right to knot the game at 6-all.
Three batters later, Beans scored on a Lauren Wildasin (Catoctin, Md./Thurmont) double to give the visitors a 7-6 lead.
A two-out error allowed Devon Barber to score in the bottom of the frame, tying the game once again.
Beans led off the eighth inning with a single before a throwing error on the ensuing sacrifice attempt put runners at the corners.
After Lauren Fusco (Laurel, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) stole second, Warrenfeltz ripped a double to right to score both before she stranded the tying runs at second and third in the bottom of the inning to preserve the win.
A Leigh Blohm (Bel Air, Md./Toms River North [N.J.]) RBI single capped a three-run first inning for the Green Terror before a pair of errors and a bases-loaded double from Barber that cleared the bases keyed a five-run second for the Mules.
Alyssa Epstein led off the bottom of the third with a double before scoring on a wild pitch to stretch the lead to 6-3.
In game one, a combined 10 runners reached base after the first inning.
Lauren Toomey (Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville Area) drew a bases-loaded walk to force home Fusco in the top of the first frame before Ashley Brewer led off the bottom of the inning with a double – the first of her three hits on the day.
After a sacrifice moved her to third, Jess Kasza singled to even the game.
After an error, Brittany Blohm single and scored on a passed ball to give Muhlenberg all of the offense it would need for Brewer's complete-game four-hit, three-strikeout win.
The Green Terror returns to action in a doubleheader at home against Bridgewater on Sunday. The first game of the doubleheader begins at 1:30 p.m.
