McDaniel sweeps twinbill from Southern Virginia

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Erinne Warrenfeltz (Smithsburg, Md./Middletown) rapped out four hits, adding four runs scored and three RBIs to lead McDaniel to a doubleheader sweep of Southern Virginia in non-conference softball action on Wednesday.

The Green Terror (10-19) plated three runs in the first inning of game one to key a 6-2 victory before scoring five in the opening frame of the nightcap en route to a 10-2 five-inning win.

Abigail Baxter had a hit in each game to lead the Knights (5-23), who were limited to five knocks in both games.

Three straight one-out walks to Beth Ann Fusco (Laurel, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti), Warrenfeltz and Megan Elfert (Finksburg, Md./Westminster) loaded the bases in the bottom of the first.

Jordan Beans (Hanover, Pa./Hanover) followed with a double to the gap in left-center to score two runs.

With two outs, Sara Erlichman (Bedford, Pa./Mercersburg Academy) drew a walk to reload the bases for Lauren Wildasin (Thurmont, Md./Catoctin), who was hit by a pitch to force in Elfert for a 3-0 lead.

A two-out Warrenfeltz single followed by a dropped foul ball that kept Elfert's at bat alive so she could draw a walk put runners at first and second.

Beans lined a ball into shallow right field that glanced off an extended glove to plate Warrenfeltz and put runners at the corners.

Beans was able to successfully get in a rundown to allow Elfert to steal home for a 5-0 lead.

A leadoff walk to Lainie Thompson in the top of the fifth and two-out Baxter single broke up the shutout.

Back-to-back singles from Sara Harmon and Laura Tome coupled with a walk to Chloe Stephens-Trammel loaded the bases in the sixth for Thompson, who was able to drive in Harmon to make 5-2.

Rachel Sidney (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) led off the home sixth with a single up the middle before moving to second on a sacrifice bunt and third on passed ball.

A walk to Elfert on a pitch that got away allowed the senior to alertly attempt to take second. She was caught in a rundown which allowed Sidney to score for the final margin.

Trailing 1-0 in the nightcap after singles from Mallory King and Harmon, Lauren Fusco (Laurel, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) led off the home first with a single to right before her older sister drew a walk to put runners at first and second.

A Warrenfeltz double to the wall plated both runners before Elfert dropped a single in right to score Warrenfeltz.

Elfert stole second before scoring on a Beans RBI single through the right side for a 4-1 lead.

A Tracy Davis (Christiansburg, Va./Christiansburg) single and Sidney sacrifice fly capped the five-run first.

A walk, Warrenfeltz single and throwing error stretched the advantage to 6-1 in the second.

In the fourth, Warrenfeltz drew a one-out walk and Elfert singled to put runners at first and second.

Beans cracked a double into the left-field corner to stretch the lead to 8-1 before getting thrown out trying to stretch it into a triple.

Davis blasted a shot over the wall in right-center for a 9-1 lead but McKEnzy MacKay responded with a one-out homer of her own to keep the game alive.

One-out walks to Ashley Crawford (New Market, Md./Linganore) and Lauren Fusco put two runners on.

With two outs, Warrenfeltz dropped a ball into right-center to end the gane.

Warrenfeltz also picked up her first win of the season in the circle, pitching five strong innings in game two.

McDaniel returns to action at home against Stevenson on Thursday. The first game of the doubleheader begins at 3 p.m.
