Brehm fans another 18
KISSIMMEE, Fla. – A pair of pitchers held McDaniel to eight hits in two games on the final day of the Rebel Spring Games in non-conference softball action on Friday.
The Green Terror (6-6) opened the day with a 4-0 defeat to Rowan before falling to Farmingdale State, 5-0.
Caroline Brehm (Hanover, Pa./New Oxford) pitched nine innings between the two games and struck out 18 batters to give her 99 for the season through 11 appearances.
Against the Profs (12-0), Lauren Davis led off the third inning with a triple before scoring on a Nicolina Veneziano single one batter later.
A Nicole Escudero double and one-out error led to an unearned run in the fifth.
In the seventh, Davis led off with a single before scoring on a Katie Trotter one-out double.
Pinch-runner Ally Zitzman scored on a Stephanie Labas double one batter later for the final margin.
Tracy Davis (Christiansburg, Va./Christiansburg) notched two of McDaniel's four hits in the game.
Brehm struck out 12 in seven innings.
Against the Rams (8-2), Sam Johrden led off the bottom of the first with a single before singles from Kristen Flint and Hillary Genova led to a pair of runs.
In the second, Amanda Maass was hit by a pitch with two outs before advancing to second on a Johrden walk and scoring on a Kaitlin Keenan single.
Flint doubled in the fourth to score Johrden, who singled two batters earlier, before scoring on a two-out error coupled with an illegal pitch.
Brehm threw the final two innings with six strikeouts.
Lauren Fusco (Laurel, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) had a hit in each game.
McDaniel returns to action in a doubleheader at Penn State-Harrisburg on Thursday. The first game begins at 3 p.m.
