Galati records four hits

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – McDaniel plated three runs in the seventh inning of the nightcap to complete a doubleheader sweep of Gettysburg in Centennial Conference (CC) softball action on Sunday.

The Green Terror (17-15, 6-6 CC) took the opener 2-0 behind a Caroline Brehm (Hanover, Pa./New Oxford) four-hit, 13-strikeout shutout. McDaniel needed a pair of rallies to complete the sweep, 5-3. Brehm fanned another 10 in game two.

Ally Galati (Milford, Pa./Cornwall Central) led the Green Terror offensively with four hits.

Melissa Tighe, Joy Hallfors and Steph Zengel led the Bullets (17-17, 7-7 CC) with a hit in each game.

Trailing 3-2 after a pair of one-out errors and a Katie Lang double plated two runs in the bottom of the sixth, Jackie Liebowitz (Bellerose, N.Y./Benjamin N. Cardozo) roped a one-out double to the warning track in center field.

Amy Baumgardner (Hanover, Pa./South Western), who gunned Lang at the plate after a Tighe single to end the sixth inning, drew a walk to put runners at first and second.

After Emily Sneeringer (Hanover, Pa./South Western) rocketed a shot down the third-base line that was called foul, she flew out to right field for the second out.

With Lindsey Blohm (Bel Air, Md./Toms River North [N.J.]) running at second, Leigh Blohm (Bel Air, Md./Md. Toms River North [N.J.]) sent a ball down the first-base line that went through the fielder's legs and into right field, allowing her sister to score with the tying run.

Rachel Sidney (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) followed, taking a 1-1 pitch the wall in left-center for a two-run double and the lead.

Brehm got the first two Gettysburg batters to fly out before a four-pitch walk and hit batter put the tying runs on base. She induced a popup foul down the third-base side that Sneeringer caught to preserve the win.

After the Green Terror left five runners on base in the first two innings, Lang was hit by a two-out pitch in the bottom of the second.

An Alexa Katz single and back-to-back walk to Tighe and Hallfors gave the Bullets a 1-0 lead.

Galati drew a leadoff walk in the fifth before a Tracy Davis (Christiansburg, Va./Christiansburg) single up the middle put two runners on base.

With one out, a third strike in the dirt allowed both base runners to move up and base and score on a Liebowitz single through the right side for a 2-1 lead.

In game one, Sidney drew a leadoff walk before stealing second and moving to third on a groundout before scoring on a wild pitch for a 1-0 lead.

Sneeringer led off the fifth inning with an infield single before giving way to pinch-runner Megan Moore (Bridgeton, N.J./Cumberland Regional).

A sacrifice bunt moved Moore to second before Sidney singled to put runners at the corners.

Galati followed with a single into left field to score Moore with the insurance run.

To that point Brehm had not allowed a base runner. She gave up a leadoff bloop single into left in the bottom of the frame but struck out the next three.

Two of the three singles in the sixth and seventh resulted in Davis throwing out runners at second base on the next pitch.

Maring had two hits in game one while Liebowitz had a pair in game two.

The Green Terror returns to action at home against Dickinson on Tuesday. The first game of the doubleheader begins at 3 p.m.
