Wagner records four hits in 1-0-1 day

YORK, Pa. – McDaniel rallied for a game-one win before forging a tie in game two in non-conference softball action at York (Pa.) on Wednesday.

The Green Terror (14-13-1) scored three times in the top of the ninth inning of game one before holding off the Spartans (18-9-1) for a 10-9 win. In game two, McDaniel forged a 2-all draw before the game was called due to darkness.

Alicia Wagner (Bradenton, Fla./Lakewood Ranch) led the Green Terror with four hits on the day, including the go-ahead double in the opener.

Haley Hern led York with three hits.

Tied at 7-all in game one after neither team could get the tiebreaking run home in the eighth, Michaela Persinger (Emmitsburg, Md./Catoctin) doubled home Morgan Scardina (Pasadena, Md./Seton Keough) with one out in the ninth.

Tori Wilkins (Lutz, Fla./Land O'Lakes) followed with a single to put runners at the corners then stole second. Wagner followed with a double to the gap for a 10-7 lead.

In the bottom of the inning, Ashley Meekins was hit by a pitch to put runners at first and second before Quinn Fisher dropped a pinch-hit single into center to load the bases.

A lineout to right plated Savannah Zittle before Joanna Marmo singled home Meekins to draw the hosts within one with runners at second and third and one out.

Fiona Johnson (Derwood, Md./Magruder) induced a comebacker and flyout to earn the win with four innings in relief in the circle.

Three walks coupled with an error staked McDaniel to a 1-0 lead in the first before an Ashley Werner double, groundout and sacrifice fly tied the game in the home second.

Persinger led off the third with her third home run in three games for a 2-1 lead before the Spartans =used three singles a wild pitch to score twice with two outs in the third.

York tacked on two more in the fifth with the aid of doubles from Bailey and Madison Bowen for a 5-2 lead.

Wilkins drew a walk to lead off the sixth before Wagner singled up the middle. With two outs, Megan Coyle (Las Vegas, Nev./Bishop Gorman) walked to load the bases before a pair of errors on the same play drew the Green Terror within 5-4.

Scardina singled home Coyle to tie the game before Payton Lewis (Valrico, Fla./Durant) drove a single up the middle for a 7-5 lead.

A Julie Van O'Linda single down the line and Zittle double down the line drew the hosts within one before two wild pitches tied the game once in the bottom of the frame.

Persinger finished game one with three hits while Wagner had two.

In the nightcap, Wagner doubled home Wilkins from second with two outs in the third for a 1-0 lead.

In the bottom of the frame, Meekins crushed a leadoff home run to tie the game before a Cassie McGrath single and Savannah Galati two-out double gave York a 2-1 lead.

In the fifth, Persinger drew a leadoff walk before moving to second on a sacrifice, third on a groundout and scored on a Wagner single to right to tie the game.

The Green Terror returns to action at home against Muhlenberg on Saturday. The first game of the doubleheader begins at 1 p.m.
