WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel rallied for a game-one win before Shenandoah staved off a game-two rally to earn a split in non-conference softball action on Wednesday.

The Green Terror (17-14-1) grabbed the opener 5-4 in the eighth inning before the Hornets (12-22) took the nightcap, 4-1.

Miranda Thompson (Columbia, Md./Atholton) helped McDaniel to the win in game one with two hits.

Carrie Robinson led Shenandoah in game two with five strikeouts in the circle and a two-run home run.

Trailing 4-0, Michaela Persinger (Emmitsburg, Md./Catoctin) drew a walk to lead off the bottom of the fifth. After moving all the way to third on a Payton Lewis (Valrico, Fla./Durant) sacrifice hit – the program-record 18th of her career, Tayler Hishon (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) singled home Persinger and moved to second on an errant throw.

After Tori Wilkins (Lutz, Fla./Land O'Lakes) was hit by a pitch, Alicia Wagner (Bradenton, Fla./Lakewood Ranch) raped a double to score Hishon. Wilkins, who initially stopped at third, then swiped home when she caught the defense napping to make it a 4-3 game.

Thompson led off the sixth with an infield single before the defense was able to get the lead runner on a sacrifice attempt.

A passed ball, however, allowed Haley Michael (Oldsmar, Fla./East Lake) to take second before an errant throw on a back-pick attempt moved her to third.

Lewis drove a two-out double to the gap to tie the game.

Wilkins was hit by a pitch for the second time to lead off the seventh before Wagner, who was 3-for-3 in the opener, laid down a sacrifice to move the winning run into scoring position. After an infield single put runners at the corners, a stolen base made it second and third. A lineout double play, however, ended the threat.

In the eighth, Shenandoah was unable to get the initial bunt down in the top of the inning and could not score.

With Alejandra Mata (Miramar, Fla./Cooper City) at second in the bottom of the inning, Carly Deichman (Easton, Pa./Freedom) was called on to lay down the sacrifice and she successfully moved Mata to third. The Green Terror opted to make it back-to-back bunts and Mata beat the throw home for the winning run.

The Hornets took advantage of two errors and a two-run Megan Wilk high popup behind first base that fell in for a hit to score three runs in the first.

A Morgan Henley leadoff double and Kayla O'Connell singled her home with one out for a 4-0 lead in the fifth.

Cassie Rickrode (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic) pitched the final 2 1/3 innings with four strikeouts to pick up her eighth win of the year in the circle.

In the nightcap, Makaela Dawkins singled with one out in the top of the first before Morgan Henley singled up the middle. A two-out O'Connell double to deep left scored Dawkins but Henley was thrown out at the plate trying to stretch the lead to two.

Meghan Stout led off the second with a double before Robinson hit a line drive over the fence in left center with two outs for a 3-0 lead.

A throwing error and two-out Wilk single stretched the lead to 4-0 in the sixth.

In the bottom of the frame, Hishon led off with a single through the right side before Wilkins doubled to put runners at second and third. After a two-out walk, A passed ball allowed Hishon to score and make it 4-1.

The Green Terror brought the tying run to the plate with two outs in the seventh but Robinson got her 10th groundout of the game to preserve the win.

Megan Coyle (Las Vegas, Nev./Bishop Gorman) and Wilkins had two hits each in game two.

The Green Terror returns to action at home against Stevenson on Thursday. The first game of the doubleheader begins at 3 p.m.
