Moreland nets 1,000th to pace McDaniel

Green Terror builds big lead on Dickinson, staves off late rally for 16th straight

WESTMINSTER, Md. - Ali Moreland (Davidsonville, Md./South River) netted 20 points, including the 1,000th of her collegiate career, to lead McDaniel to a 74-63 win over Dickinson in Centennial Conference (CC) women's basketball action on Wednesday.

The senior guard entered the game, needing three points to become the 14th Green Terror player to reach the milestone. She canned her first two shots of the game, hitting an 18-foot jumper from the left wing with 16:26 to play in the first half to give her 1,001. She finished the night with 1,017 career points, hitting 10 of her 18 attempts from the floor in the seventh 20-point outing of her career. She also pulled down six rebounds and dished out three assists.

Alesha Sisco led all scorers with 24 points for the Red Devils (13-7, 9-7 CC). Brooke Muller added 19 points and five assists.

Ashley Lyles (Laurel, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) added 16 points for McDaniel (16-4, 13-2 CC), which built a 22-point lead with 11:55 to play before Dickinson put together a furious rally with a 19-4 run that drew the visitors within 63-56 with 3:46 to play.

A 9-0 burst stifled the comeback attempt en route to the 11-point victory - the Green Terror's 16th consecutive that started with a 70-55 win at Dickinson on Dec. 3.

McDaniel tallied the game's first six points and built a 25-9 lead midway through the first period behind 10 of Moreland's 14 first-half points.

The Green Terror took a 39-25 advantage into the locker room and built it to 57-37 on back-to-back 3-pointers from Katelyn Fischer (Reisterstown, Md./Seton Keough) and Sally Grace (Catonsville, Md./Mount de Sales Academy).

Grace finished the nine points, hitting three 3-pointers for the fifth time this season and ninth time in her career. She has 104 triples in her career - fourth on the all-time list, passing Kelly Cramp. Jen Piccolomini is the all-time leader with 144.

Cara Thompson (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) added eight points, 12 rebounds and five assists for McDaniel. Sam Witman (New Oxford, Pa./New Oxford) chipped in a career-high eight points while Fischer added seven.

The Green Terror returns to action at Haverford on Saturday. Game time is 1 p.m.
