Late first-half run keys 60-43 win over McDaniel
WESTMINSTER, Md. – Caitlin Moser was the only player to reach double figures, netting 21 points that included a 14-point first half to pace Gettysburg to a 60-43 Centennial Conference (CC) women's basketball win at McDaniel on Wednesday.
Cara Thompson (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) paced the Green Terror (3-12, 3-9 CC) with nine points.
Julie McGrory added nine points and six rebounds for the Bullets (12-4, 7-4 CC), who held McDaniel to its fewest points in the series since 1984.
After nine lead changes in the first nine minutes of the game, Moser hits a layup on the break to give Gettysburg a 11-10 lead, igniting an 8-0 run to put the visitors up seven with 7:43 showing.
Moser contributed the first six points of the run.
A single Mary Spicer free throw with 30 seconds to play in the first half pushed the halftime lead to 26-16.
Clinging to a nine-point lead with 13:43 remaining, Rianna Doane rebounded her own missed 3-pointer for a layup to burst another 12-3 run for a 44-26 lead just 3:24 later.
The Bullets extended the lead to as many as 21 en route to the 17-point win.
Whitney Snoops (Millersville, Md./Archbishop Spalding) added eight points and three assists.
McDaniel returns to action at Franklin & Marshall on Saturday. Game time is 2 p.m.
