Larsen paces Green Terror past Bryn Mawr with career-best 16
WESTMINSTER, Md. – Meredith Larsen (Phoenix, Md./Bryn Mawr) netted a career-high 16 points to lead McDaniel to a 73-35 victory over Bryn Mawr in Centennial Conference (CC) women's basketball action on Saturday.
The Green Terror (5-13, 4-10 CC) reached the 70-point plateau for the second straight game after not hitting the mark in any of its first 16 contests.
Nicolette Parmese led the Owls (0-18, 0-14 CC) with 16 points.
After Rachael Rybak (Reisterstown, Md./Franklin) and Taytiana Welch exchanged baskets in the game's first 1:07, Whitney Snoops (Millersville, Md./Archbishop Spalding) banked home a shot from short range to spark a 19-0 run that put McDaniel in control of the game with 12:55 to play in the first half.
Larsen contributed six of her points during the burst while Cara Thompson (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) and Snoops each had four.
Back-to-back Larsen jumpers put the Green Terror on top by 20 for the first time at 27-7 with 10:29 on the clock.
An Allie Eader (Frederick, Md./Linganore) 3-pointer – one of her career-best three triples on the day – and Morgan Koopman (Finksburg, Md./McDonogh) free throw gave McDaniel its largest lead of the first half at 44-18 with 2:06 on the clock.
Parmese made it a 44-20 game at the intermission.
Keyed by four points each from Larsen and Kate Zimmer (Ocean City, Md./Stephen Decatur), the Green Terror used a 10-1 stretch through the first 4:42 of the second half to open up a 33-point advantage.
McDaniel led by as many as 40 on the final of Katherine Restrepo's career-best eight points with 1:27 on the clock.
Thompson finished with 10 points while Rybak and Eader both added nine. Snoops chipped in four rebounds and four assists. Eader had a career-high six of the Green Terror's season-best 22 swipes.
Emma Adams (Oneida, N.Y./Oneida) contributed four points, four assists and five rebounds. Larsen added five boards and three helpers.
McDaniel returns to action at Dickinson on Wednesday. Game time is 6 p.m.
