Fords convert 10 of 18 from long range in 71-61 victory
WESTMINSTER, Md. – Nina Voith tallied a game-high 24 points, including hitting five of Haverford's 10 3-pointer in a 71-61 Centennial Conference (CC) women's basketball victory over McDaniel on Saturday.
Cara Wyant added a double-double off the bench for the Fords (9-12, 6-10 CC), pouring in 13 points that included a 3-for-3 showing from long range to go with 10 rebounds.
Cara Thompson (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) reached 20 points in a second straight game with 21 points for the Green Terror (6-14, 5-11 CC), who had its three-game winning streak snapped.
After three ties and four lead changes in the game's first nine minutes, Victoria Sobocinski drained a 3-pointer with 9:20 showing to break a 15-all deadlock and spark a 15-4 run over the next 5:42.
Voith added a pair of triples during the stretch.
Rachael Rybak (Reisterstown, Md./Franklin) hit back-to-back 3-pointers to pull McDaniel within 30-25 with 2:11 to play in the first half. However, Haverford tallied the final seven points of the stanza to take a 37-25 lead into the break.
The Fords stretched the lead to 14 early in the second half before the Green Terror tallied seven of the game's next eight points, including the second of Thompson's career-high five 3-pointers to pull the hosts within 42-34 with 14:26 on the clock. The senior's five triples were most by a McDaniel player since Sally Grace canned five as part of the team's program-record 12 in last season's regular-season finale against Gettysburg.
Treys from Voith and Wyant around a Rybak mid-range jumper stretched the lead back to 12 before back-to-back triples from Thompson closed the deficit to six with 11:14 to play.
The Green Terror closed to as close as five before a Wyant 3-pointer helped swell the advantage back to 11 at 61-50 with 5:30 remaining.
Allie Eader (Frederick, Md./Linganore) and Rybak added two 3-pointers apiece as part of McDaniel's season-best nine treys.
Snoops finished with 12 points and seven rebounds while Rybak added 10 points and Thompson pulled down eight boards. Eader added five assists and two steals to her eight points.
The Green Terror returns to action at home against York (Pa.) on Monday. Game time is 7 p.m.
