Gettysburg jumps on top early, downs McDaniel
GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Caitlin Moser recorded 18 points to lead Gettysburg to a 64-35 victory over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) women's basketball action on Saturday.
Alyssa Oursler added a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds for the Bullets (19-6, 14-6 CC), who are the third seed in the upcoming CC tournament and will play Muhlenberg in the semifinals next Saturday at Johns Hopkins.
Whitney Snoops (Millersville, Md./Archbishop Spalding) led the Green Terror (7-18, 5-15 CC) with 12 points and 11 rebounds while Meredith Larsen (Phoenix, Md./Bryn Mawr) and Cara Thompson (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) added 10 points each.
Knotted at 4-all, Lauren Dadigan hit a jumper with 16:17 to play in the first half to spark a 21-3 run over the game's next 8:35.
Larsen and Caroline Murphy traded baskets before Moser canned a 3-pointer to stretch the lead to its largest at 30-9 with 4:28 remaining in the first half.
A pair of Snoops free throws 58 seconds later sparked a 6-0 burst that closed the deficit to 15 before Dadigan swished a pair from the stripe with 10 seconds left to make it a 32-15 game at the break.
Trailing 48-26 on a Oursler jumper with 12:46 remaining, Thompson tallied the next five points to trim the deficit to 17 just 1:09 later.
Holding a 52-35 lead when Larsen hit a jumper with 7:40 to play, Katie Earley converted a three-point play and the Bullets tallied the final 14 points of the game.
A Kate Zimmer (Ocean City, Md./Stephen Decatur) 3-pointer in the second half accounted for the only other Green Terror points.
