CARLISLE, Pa. - A 7-2 start to the second half stretched the McDaniel lead to double digits en route to a 61-49 win over Dickinson in Centennial Conference (CC) women's basketball action on Thursday.
Steph Perez (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East) led the Green Terror (9-11, 6-9 CC) with 19 points. Rachael Rybak (Reisterstown, Md./Franklin) and Emma Wingerd (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) finished with 11 points apiece.
Belma Mekic paced the Red Devils (11-8, 7-8 CC) with 16 points and nine rebounds.
Behind a 5-for-6 start from the floor, McDaniel jumped out to an 11-4 lead through the game's first 3:59.
After four straight Dana Walsh points drew the hosts within one, Belma Mekic hit a pair of free throws with 8:25 on the clock give Dickinson a 16-15 lead.
A Perez 3-pointer in the right corner put the Green Terror back on top by two just 1:19 later, snapping a 4-minute, 26-second scoring drought.
Two Bridget Borgese free throws momentarily knotted the game before a second Perez triple gave McDaniel a three-point lead.
Buckets from Wingerd and Rybak gave McDaniel a 27-21 lead en route to a 29-23 halftime advantage.
The Green Terror pushed the second-half lead out to 13 on a Codi McMaster (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove) fastbreak layup with 16:30 to play.
After Walsh hit one free throw to close the deficit to 40-28, Lindsey Nichols (Wilmington, Del./St. Mark's) hit a pair of 3-pointers around a Carman Mann layup to stretch the lead to 46-30 with 14:09 showing.
An 8-2 Dickinson run closed the deficit to 51-44 with 2:51 remaining but McDaniel went 8-for-10 from the charity stripe down the stretch to seal the victory.
The Green Terror returns to action at home against Haverford on Saturday. Game time is 1 p.m.
