Perez, Nichols net 16 in road win

SWARTHMORE, Md. – McDaniel canned five second-half 3-pointers to key a surge that resulted in a 61-57 Centennial Conference (CC) women's basketball victory at Swarthmore on Tuesday.

Lindsey Nichols (Wilmington, Del./St. Mark's) matched her career best with 16 points to lead the Green Terror (9-4, 4-3 CC), including draining a career-high four triples. Steph Perez (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East) added 16 points of her own, including a pair of 3-pointers as part of the season-best seven made shots from long range.

Katie Lytle paced the Garnet (7-6, 2-5 CC) with a double-double, notching 17 points and 13 rebounds.

Trailing 43-37, Codi McMaster (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove) hit two free throws with 8:00 remaining before a barrage of 3-pointers over the next three minutes.

Nichols drew the visitors within one with 7:24 showing before Stephanie Lechich responded to push the lead back to four.

Nichols made it 3-pointers on back-to-back possessions with 6:50 showing before Perez gave her team its first lead since 14-12 at 48-46 with 5:56 on the clock.

Two Maggie O'Neil free throws evened the game before Nichols made it four second-half treys, hitting with 5:13 to play.

An Emma Wingerd (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) layup stretched the lead to five.

Baskets from Brittney Davis (Laurel, Md./St. Vincent Pallotii) and Wingerd pushed the lead to 57-49 with 1:20 to play before holding on for the four-point win.

Behind 3-pointers from Allie Eader (Ijamsville, Md./Linganore) and Perez, the Green Terror built a 12-6 lead in the game's first 5:10 before Swarthmore responded with the game's next six points.

A Lauren Ballenger (Silver Spring, Md./Good Counsel) layup with 10:51 put McDaniel back in front by two before Lytle hit a jumper to spark a 9-0 run that gave the Garnet a 23-14 lead with 5:41 showing.

After Wingerd and Elle Larsen traded baskets, Perez and Ballenger each hit two free throws to spark an 8-2 run that closed the deficit to three at the break.

Swarthmore extended the advantage back to as many as six on an O'Neil 3-pointer with 14:11 to play – its first of three six-point, second-half leads.

Karli Zeps (Reisterstown, Md./Seton Keough) grabbed a career-high 10 rebounds while Perez had six. Eader dished out five helpers while Perez had a season high-tying four assists.

The Green Terror returns to action at Franklin & Marshall on Thursday. Game time is 7 p.m.
