WESTMINSTER, Md. - St. Thomas (Minn.), ranked sixth in the preseason poll, outscored McDaniel 26-8 in the fourth quarter to pull away for a 74-43 victory in the championship game of the 2016 McDaniel Tipoff Tournament in women's basketball action on Saturday.

Jasmine Smith (Baltimore, Md./Baltimore Polytechnic Institute) scored eight points to go with six assists to lead the Green Terror (1-2) and earn a spot on the all-tournament team.

Kaitlin Langer led the Tommies (2-0) with 22 points, pacing three starters in double digits.

Behind five straight points to open the game by Gabby Zehrer, who joined Langer on the all-tournament team, St. Thomas opened up an early lead that they never relinquished.

Two Smith free throws and a Karli Zeps (Reisterstown, Md./Seton Keough) jumper, McDaniel closed to within 5-4 but four straight points from Langer pushed the lead back to five.

A Halle Burgess (Ashton, Md./Good Counsel) 3-pointer and Liv Storer (Wagnaratta, Victoria, Australia/Galen Catholic College) jumper closed the deficit to 17-15 but Zehrer hit a triple of her own to push the lead back to five at the end of the quarter.

Langer scored 12 of St. Thomas' 14 second-quarter points to extend the lead to 21-34 at the break.

The teams played an even third quarter before back-to-back Lucia Renikoff 3-pointers started the strong fourth-quarter finish.

Melanie Yeomans (Adamstown, Md./South Hagerstown) and Storer joined Smith with eight points.

McDaniel opens Centennial Conference play at Johns Hopkins on Tuesday. Game time is 6 p.m.
