CARLISLE, Pa. – Dickinson went on a 19-4 run over the final 7:45 of the third quarter to build a nine-point lead before holding on to top McDaniel 61-58 in Centennial Conference (CC) women's basketball action on Wednesday.

Jasmine Smith (Baltimore, Md./Baltimore Polytechnic Institute) led the Green Terror (10-10, 8-7 CC) with 18 points. Alyssa March (Fallston, Md./Fallston) added a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds while Karli Zeps (Reisterstown, Md./Seton Keough) chipped in 13 points.

Helen Roberts paced the Red Devils (13-7, 10-5 CC) with 20 points. Mary Martin added 16 points while Kassidy Lesher chipped in a double-double of her own with 12 points and 13 rebounds.

Trailing by as many as seven when Smith drained a 3-pointer with 8:53 on the third-quarter clock, Roberts responded with a triple of her own.

After March gave McDaniel a 35-29 lead, Lesher canned two attempts from the charity stripe – where Dickinson was 19-for-22 as a team on the night – to spark the game-changing run.

Including the free throws, Lesher scored six straight points to tie the game at 35-all with 6:43 showing.

Smith's second trey of the period gave the Green Terror one last lead with 6:29 showing before a Roberts 3-pointer tied the game for the seventh, and final, time.

Two Martin free throws with 4:18 showing accounted for the 10th lead change. Dickinson held McDaniel to just a single free throw over the remainder of the quarter.

Trailing 52-43, Anna Mondoro (Dumfries, Va./Homeschool) canned a 3-pointer and March converted a layup to close the deficit to four with 4:04 to play.

A Smith driving layup with 48.1 seconds on the clock made it a 59-56 game but Roberts hit two free throws at the other end to stretch the lead back to five.

After a Zeps driving layup and shot clock violation at the other end, the Green Terror had 10.1 seconds remaining for one-last try at a game-tying attempt but the defense prevented a quality look at the shot.

Tied at 8-all in the first quarter, the Red Devils netted eight of the final 10 points to open up a 16-10 lead after 10 minutes.

McDaniel, however, countered with the first seven points of the second quarter to take a 17-16 edge with 7:30 showing.

A Martin three-point play and Hannah Heiring triple made it a 26-25 Dickinson lead in the final minute of the second quarter but a Zeps free throw and a putback before the final horn gave the visitors a 28-26 advantage at the break.

The Green Terror returns to action at home against Swarthmore on Saturday. Game time is 1 p.m.
