WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel opened up an 18-4 first-quarter lead and held off second-half pushes by Washington (Md.) to prevail 50-41 in Centennial Conference (CC) women's basketball action on Tuesday.

Liv Storer (Wangaratta, Victoria, Australia/Galen Catholic College) led the Green Terror (8-9, 6-6 CC) with 15 points, six rebounds, three blocks and three steals. Jasmine Smith (Baltimore, Md./Baltimore Polytechnic Institute) also reached double figures in the scoring column with 10 points, adding seven rebounds and three assists.

Bridget McLaughlin led a balanced effort for the Shorewomen (4-13, 2-10 CC) with seven points.

After Alexis Krahling hit the second of two free throws with 8:28 showing in the first period, Storer responded with a jumper in the paint at the other end.

One Cassidy Quattro free throw tied the game before a barrage of 3-pointers – two each from Caroline Ward (Mt. Airy, Md./Linganore) and Halle Burgess (Ashton, Md./Good Counsel) – keyed a 16-2 run that gave the hosts a 14-point lead with 1:40 showing.

A Katherine Moore free throw and McLaughlin triple closed the deficit to 10 at the end of the period.

Washington extended the run to 15-2, closing to within 20-19 midway through the second quarter.

Baskets from Ward and Libby Dougherty (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) stretched the lead back to five with 3:32 remaining before Kristi Kozlowski and Smith traded layup to make it a 26-21 game with 2:46 showing.

Storer snapped a 4-minute, 50-second scoreless stretch with a jumper at the 7:56 mark of the third quarter.

One Quattro free throw nearly two minutes later was the only other point until a short Storer jumper with 5:15 on the clock.

McLaughlin hit a jumper to make it a 32-31 game with 1:09 to play in the quarter before Smith responded with a 3-pointer en route to a 37-33 lead entering the final quarter.

Seven straight Shorewomen points, capped by a Caitlyn Clark 3-pointer, closed the deficit to 41-40 but a Storer second-change jumper at the other end of the floor kept the visitors at arm's length.

Renie Tsomos (Forest Hill, Md./Bel Air) dished out five assists while Burgess and Ward each contributed eight points.

The Green Terror returns to action at Johns Hopkins on Thursday. Game time is 6 p.m.
