Yeomans nets 15 in road win

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – McDaniel opened up a 25-10 lead after the first quarter en route to a 74-43 victory over Swarthmore in Centennial Conference (CC) women's basketball action on Saturday.

Melanie Yeomans (Myersville, Md./South Hagerstown) led the Green Terror (10-11, 8-8 CC) back to even in conference play with 15 points. Jasmine Smith (Baltimore, Md./Baltimore Polytechnic Institute) added 12 points, six assists and four steals.

Isabelle Ewart and Hayley Raymond led the Garnet (3-17, 1-14 CC) with 10 points each.

A single Yeomans free throws, Renie Tsomos (Forest Hill, Md./Bel Air) jumper and Smith 3-pointer staked McDaniel to a 6-0 lead in the game's first 2:30.

A Tsomos layup on the break stretched the advantage to 13-2 with 4:17 to play.

Triples from Halle Burgess (Ashton, Md./Good Counsel) and Marley Burgess (Ashton, Md./Connelly School of the Holy Child) helped push the lead to 22-6 en route to the 15-point lead after 10 minutes.

The Green Terror netted the first six points of the second quarter to make it a 31-10 game with 7:27 showing.

The lead swelled as large as 25 before settling at a 41-23 halftime edge.

McDaniel outscored the hosts 16-2 over the first 6 minutes, 31 seconds of the third quarter and the lead was never smaller than 28 the rest of the way.

Burgess added eight points on a day where 15 of 17 players scored at least one points and 12 players netted no fewer than four.

The Green Terror returns to action at home against Franklin & Marshall on Thursday. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
