McDaniel edges Messiah, 13-12

GRANTHAM, Pa. – Jennifer Stone (Baltimore, Md./Loch Raven) recorded three goals in McDaniel to a 13-12 victory over Messiah in non-conference women’s lacrosse action on Wednesday.

Stone broke an 11-all deadlock with 2:11 to play before Kelly Scheler (Forest Hill, Md./C. Milton Wright) netted an insurance goal a minute later, lifting the Green Terror (2-0) to the victory.
Rachel Dirksen paced the Falcons (1-1) with four goals.
After the final two of Dirksen’s goal evened the game at 11 with 3:21 to play, Stone converted a free-position goal with 2:11 on the clock to give McDaniel a one-goal lead.
Scheler finished a solo run 59 seconds later to give the visitors a two-goal advantage before Emily Van Hook set the final margin with 37 seconds to play.
Dirksen opened the scoring 1:50 into the game before Nikki Lawrence doubled Messiah’s lead 23 seconds later.
Two goals from Brittany Baer (Westminster, Md./Westminster) and one each from Lindsey McDonald (Germantown, Md./Damascus) and Chelsea Ferruzzi (Jenkintown, Pa./Jenkintown) accounted for a 4-0 run that gave McDaniel a 4-2 advantage with 15:20 to play in the opening half.
McDonald added a pair of assists during the flurry – the Green Terror’s lone helpers of the game.
Trailing 5-4 with 11:50 to play, Baer and Scheler found the back of the net for a 6-5 McDaniel lead.
Rachel Coyle tallied unassisted with 1:05 remaining in the first half to even the score at halftime.
