Three named to All-Metro team
BALTIMORE, Md. – Three members of the McDaniel College women’s lacrosse team have been named to the 2009 All-Metro Region team by the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) on Thursday.
Junior Brittany Baer (Westminster,
Md./Westminster) earned first-team honors while seniors
Michelle Fluty (Huntingtown, Md./Calvert) and
Lindsey McDonald (Germantown, Md./Damascus) were
named to the second team.
Baer, an attacker, earned her first all-region honor after being
named to the All-Centennial Conference (CC) team for the second
straight season. She led the team and CC with a program-record 76
goals. Her team-leading 88 points ranked second on the all-time
single-season list, two shy of Sandi Stevens’ 1987 record
(90). She controlled 60 draws, which is also a program record, in
addition to causing 25 turnovers and picking up 35 ground
balls.
Fluty, a defender, was also a first-team All-CC selection before
earning the all-region nod. She was a key member of the defense,
causing 13 turnovers and picking up 27 ground balls. She also
contributed one goal to the offense in a 15-1 win over Bryn
Mawr.
McDonald, an attacker, paced the team with a program-record 41
assists. She also tallied 19 goals to finish second on the team
with 60 points while adding 20 ground balls and eight caused
turnovers.
By being named all-region, the athletes are eligible for inclusion
in the IWLCA/US Lacrosse All-American team, slated to be released
on Friday.
The Green Terror finished its season with an overall record of 9-8
(5-4 CC).
