Susquehanna jumps out to early lead en route to 14-6 win over McDaniel

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Sarah Wright tallied four goals and three assists to lead Susquehanna to a 14-6 victory over McDaniel in non-conference women's lacrosse action on Thursday.

Lisa Jurd (Columbia, Md./Hammond) registered two goals and an assist to lead the Green Terror (1-8), who had its stretch of four straight games decided by one goal or in overtime snapped.

Michelle McGinniss and Ally Bauer contributed hat tricks for the Crusaders (5-3), who scored the game's first five goals en route to the eight-goal victory.

Erin Dyer found Lindsey Derstine for her first of three assists just over eight minutes into the game.

Clinging to that 1-0 lead through a defensive first nearly 14 minutes of the game, Wright found a streaking Bauer with 16:08 to play to spark a three-goal flurry over the next 2 minutes, 8 seconds.

Wright finished off a Derstine feed 1:28 before Dyer hit McGinniss for a 4-0 lead with 14:00 to play.

Emily Walsh made a move from behind the net to stretch the lead to five with 9:08 showing.

Chelsea Watkins (Columbia, Md./Hammond) helped McDaniel break up the shutout, finishing Paige Messersmith (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) with 6:30 to go before converting a free-position goal with 1:38 on the clock to cut the deficit to 5-2.

Derstine stretched the lead back to four, finding the back of the net on a free-position attempt of her own with 14.7 seconds remaining in the first half.

Derstine pushed the lead to five just 1:19 into the second half before Jurd hit Mary Tokolish (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) with 22:26 to play.

A McGinniss marker and back-to-back scores by Wright stretched the advantage to 10-3 with 11:50 to play before Tokolish broke up the run at the 9:20 mark.

A Dyer tally and pair of Bauer goals pushed the lead to 14-3 with 2:11 to play before Jurd hit a free-position goal with 1:54 on the clock.

McGinniss and Jurd exchanged tallies in the final 1:17 to set the final margin.

Messersmith won five draw controls and picked up three ground balls while causing two turnovers. The trio of Steph Nichols (Wilmington, Del./St. Mark's), Emily Harman (Columbia, Md./Hammond) and Erin McDonnell (Cockeysville, Md./Maryvale Prep) each picked up five ground balls, contributing to a 29-22 advantage in that category for the hosts.

The Green Terror returns to action at home against No. 7 Franklin & Marshall on Saturday. Game time is 1 p.m.
