Bopst tallies two and two
WESTMINSTER, Md. – Stevenson scored the final three goals of the first half to take a 6-4 lead en route to a 14-12 non-conference women's lacrosse victory over McDaniel on Tuesday.
Danielle Entrot (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) recorded her fourth hat trick of the season for the Green Terror (1-3) while Bridget Bopst (Westminster, Md./South Carroll) recorded a career-best four points on two goals and two assists.
Emily Gartrell led the 19th-ranked Mustangs (2-1) with five goals while Laura Grammer matched her point total with three goals and two assists.
After a back-and-forth opening 10 minutes, Paige Messersmith (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) gave McDaniel its lone lead of the game at 4-3 with 19:56 to play.
Grammer, however, responded 2:40 later with an unassisted marker to knot the game and spark a 4-0 run.
Gartrell converted a free-position shot with 13:42 to play and Leah Warner notched the first of her four-point outing, finishing a solo run with 5:46 showing.
Warner found Grammer just 28 seconds into the second half for a 7-4 advantage.
A Chelsea Watkins (Columbia, Md./Hammond) unassisted marker 1:23 later closed the deficit to 7-5 before Gartell hit a free-position shot to push the lead back to three nearly two minute later.
Bopst hit Entrot right in front of the crease with 24:48 on the clock to once again make it a two-goal game before Warner and Marissa Meiklejohn went back-to-back to give Stevenson its largest adavantage of the game.
Gartrell and Grammer each scored around a Messersmith marker before Watkins started a three-goal Green Terror run with 13:08 to play, closing the deficit to 12-11.
Bopst and Entrot connected once again with 10:10 to play before Bopst scored off a turnover and ground ball with 5:21 showing.
Free-position goals by Gartell and Amanda LeGar stretched the lead to 14-11 with 1:20 remaining before Entrot completed her hat trick with 23.7 seconds on the clock.
Meiklejohn opened the scoring off a Grammer assist just 16 seconds into the contest before Beaudry answered off an Entrot feed 48 seconds later.
LeGar made it a 2-1 game just 38 seconds after that but Bopst responded with a free-position tally at the 25:14 mark.
A Gartell free-position goal gave the visitors a one-goal edge before Kaitlin Mahoney (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./Comsewogue) finished off a Julia Jacobs (Stevensville, Md./St. Mary's) to knot the game at 3-all.
Messersmith added 10 draw controls, three ground balls and two caused turnovers to her two goals while Steph Nichols (Wilmington, Del./St. Mark's) added four draw controls, four ground balls and two caused turnovers.
The Green Terror returns to action in the Centennial Conference opener at Bryn Mawr on Saturday. Game time is 1 p.m.
