WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel went on a 7-1 run through the middle portion of the second half to break a 9-all deadlock and defeat Dickinson 16-11 in Centennial Conference (CC) women's lacrosse action on Wednesday.

Paige Messersmith (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) established a pair of new records for the Green Terror (6-7, 3-4 CC), resetting both the single-season and career marks for draw controls. She also added three goals and two assists to the offense. Danielle Entrot (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) led the attack with five goals and an assist.

With her fourth draw control – coming with 20:44 to play in the first half – the junior recorded her 65th of the season for a new single-season best mark. In a 1-minute, 16-second span in the second half, Messersmith tied Brittany Baer's career mark of 171, scored the goal to put McDaniel on top for good and grabbed her eighth draw of the night to break the deadlock with Baer. Messersmith finished the night with 10 draw controls to give her 71 on the season and 174 for her career.

Kelly Haglund paced the Red Devils (6-7, 3-3 CC) with four goals and an assist.

Tied at 9-all after Kaity Moore finished a solo run with 19:13 to play, Messersmith took a pass in the middle from Entrot and finished for a 10-9 lead with 17:57 to play.

Messersmith won the ensuing draw. Chelsea Watkins (Columbia, Md./Hammond) scored but the whistled had blown, giving her a free-position shot, which she converted 15 seconds after Messersmith's tally for an 11-9 lead.

A Messersmith free-position tally a minute and a half later pushed the lead to 12-9 and forced a Dickinson goalkeeper change.

Haglund hit Val Hoffman off a free-position attempt to pull the visitors back within two with 15:54 remaining.

Messersmith hit Entrot to reestablish the three-goal advantage with 13:35 to play.

Off the ensuing draw control win – Messersmith's ninth – Monica Parcell (Prospect Park, Md./Interboro) found the back of the net to push the lead to 14-10 just 15 seconds later, forcing a Red Devil timeout.

Messersmith won the next draw control, went straight down the field and finished top shelf for a 15-10 lead with just 10 more seconds elapsed to give the Green Terror three markers in 25 seconds.

With 10:03 to play, Mary Tokolish (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) hit Entrot from behind the cage. Entrot bounced in her fifth of the night to push the lead to 16-10.

Haglund set the final margin 12 seconds later after winning the draw control and going straight to goal.

Two goals from Haglund and a Taryn Abbassian free-position goal staked Dickinson to a 3-0 lead 6:16 into the game.

Goals from Parcell and Entrot coupled with back-to-back Tokolish markers gave the hosts a 4-3 advantage with 10:31 to play before Carly O'Brien knotted the game once again with 6:59 to play.

Kaitlin Mahoney (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./Comsewogue) found Watkins for her second assist of the day to put the Green Terror back on top 1:11 later.

A Kara Glazer free-position shot and Haglund goal 42 seconds apart gave Dickinson a 6-5 edge at the break.

Two more Entrot goals and one from Anna Beaudry (Amherst, Mass./Amherst Regional) turned the one-goal deficit into an 8-6 lead with 24:28 to play in the second half.

Megan Taylor and Glazer knotted the game at 8-all just 1:14 later before Mahoney and Moore traded goals to keep the game deadlocked.

Steph Nichols (Wilmington, Del./St. Mark's) contributed three draw controls and five ground balls while Entrot added three caused turnovers and two ground balls.

McDaniel returns to action at Ursinus on Saturday. Game time is 12 p.m.
