Entrot records five and two
WESTMINSTER, Md. – Susquehanna scored four straight goals to take a 15-11 lead before staving off a furious McDaniel rally for a 15-14 non-conference women's lacrosse victory on Saturday.
Danielle Entrot (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) registered five goals and two assists to lead the Green Terror (4-3), who also got four goals from Paige Messersmith (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) that included two of the final three tallies.
Emma Ehler and Annie McElaney netted four goals each to pace the 13th-ranked Crusaders (9-0), who finished with a 41-32 advantage in shots.
With the game tied at 8-all, McDaniel scored an apparent free-position goal with 20:06 to play in the second half but the goal was disallowed after an illegal stick was discovered on the ensuing stick check.
With possession after the illegal stick, Susquehanna raced the length of the field and Ehler hit the back of the net for her 42nd goal of the season with 19:39 showing.
Ehler stretched the lead to 10-8 35 seconds later before Entrot found Bridget Bopst (Westminster, Md./South Carroll) to trim the deficit to one with 14;24 showing.
McElaney responded with an unassisted tally three minutes later before a pair of Monica Parcell (Prospect Park, Pa./Interboro)-to-Julia Jacobs (Stevensville, Md./St. Mary's) goals 35 seconds apart knotted the game at 11-all with 9:48 to play.
McElaney gave the Crusaders the lead for good, finishing a solo run with 8:11 on the clock.
Free-position goals from Brynn Reid and Meredith Crane stretched the lead to 14-11 with 5:00 to play before McGinniss capped a 5-minute, 54-second span with an unassisted tally.
Messersmith hit a free-position shot with 1:53 on the clock before Entrot won the ensuing draw and, off a restart, immediately passed ahead to Maggie Quinn (Crofton, Md./Archbishop Spalding), who hit the back of the net for her first collegiate tally with 1:40 showing.
With 48.7 seconds left, Messersmith hit the back of the net with the Green Terror's third free-position tally of the contest to make it a one-goal game.
Entrot staked McDaniel to a 1-0 lead off a Jacobs feed 5:30 into the game before McGinniss and Ehler scored 13 seconds apart to turn the one-goal deficit into a one-goal lead.
Bopst found Messersmith to knot the game at 2-all with 21:51 to play before Ehler responded nine seconds later.
McGinniss put Susquehanna back in front before goals from Jacobs and Entrot evened the game at 4-all with 16:06 showing.
McElaniey and Lindsey Derstine gave the Crusaders a 6-4 lead before a Messersmith tally and two from Entrot gave the hosts a 7-6 edge at the break.
McElaney and Reid turned the one-goal halftime deficit into a one-goal lead 6:15 into the second half before Entrot knotted the game at 8-all off a Kaitlin Mahoney (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./Comsewogue) assist with 23:07 remaining.
Entrot added six draw controls while Kate Goldstein (Amherst, Mass./Amherst Regional) made a career high 16 saves in goal.
