GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Gettysburg jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the game's first 9:08 en route to a 19-10 victory over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) women's lacrosse action on Wednesday.
Kelsey Markiewicz paced the sixth-ranked Bullets (10-1, 5-0 CC) with five goals while Bridget Kenny added four goals and three assists.
Goals by six different Gettysburg players – and points by eight different players – staked the hosts to the early advantage.
Markiewicz got the offense going, scoring just 10 seconds into the game. Loren Pruitt added two goals during the stretch.
Bridget Bopst broke up the shutout with a free-position goal at the 18:22 mark before Maggie Quinn (Crofton, Md./Archbishop Spalding) and Jacobs finished solo runs 35 seconds apart to make it a 7-3 game with 16:20 on the clock.
Markiewicz and Mandy Buell pushed the lead back to six just 50 seconds later before Abby Phillips (Pylesville, Md./North Harford) found Barbeito with 14:33 left.
Allison Farrell (Towson, Md./Loch Raven) closed the deficit to 9-5 before the Bullets scored five of the final six goals in the first half to open up a 14-6 lead.
Buell and Markiewicz extended the lead to 16-6 with 23:49 to play before Danielle Entrot (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) finished from Barbeito with 21:52 showing.
Pruitt and Kenny stretched the lead to 18-7 midway through the second half before Entrot, Barbeito and Jacobs accounted for the Green Terror's side of a 3-1 finish to the game.
Kenny was the lone Gettysburg goal in the final 11 minutes, scoring with 9:10 remaining.
McDaniel returns to action at home against Muhlenberg on Saturday. Game time is 1 p.m.
