WESTMINSTER, Md. – Franklin & Marshall scored nine straight goals to open up a 10-2 lead late in the first half, defeating McDaniel 19-6 in Centennial Conference (CC) women's lacrosse action on Wednesday.
Abby Phillips (New Freedom, Pa./North Harford [Pa.]) led the Green Terror (4-9, 0-6 CC) with her team's first three goals.
Paige Moriarty led the ninth-ranked Diplomats (11-4, 5-1 CC) with five goals and two assists. Five other players registered two goals each and, in all, 10 different players scored.
Phillips tallied twice around a Moriarty goal to give the hosts a 2-1 lead in the game's first 2:34 before Gabby Frank returned the favor for Moriarty and finished a pass to tie the game at 2-all with 26:35 showing.
Moriarty then finished a solo run 55 seconds later to give Franklin & Marshall the lead for good. Seven different Diplomats contributed to the 9-0 run.
Phillips broke up a nearly 25-minute scoring drought finishing right in front of the cage off an Allison Farrell (Towson, Md./Loch Raven) feed from the left side with 2:43 on the clock.
Lindsey Farrell (Towson, Md./Loch Raven) closed the deficit to 10-4 just 22 seconds later.
Hannah Serling stretched the lead back to seven at the break before Moriarty once again found Frank early in the second half.
Megan Quattrone (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle Area) made it a 12-5 game with 27:28 remaining before the Diplomats – behind two more Moriarty tallies – scored the next six.
Annemarie Duerr (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) and Clare Monaghan traded markers in the final 4:00 to set the final score.
The Green Terror returns to action at Swarthmore on Saturday. Game time is 12 p.m.
