Brownawell nets four goals

LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall scored five goals in an 8-minute, 30-span to break open a 10-6 game and defeat McDaniel 21-11 in Centennial Conference (CC) women's lacrosse action on Wednesday.

Emily Brownawell (Sparks, Md./Oldsfield) led the Green Terror (5-8, 1-5 CC) with four goals.

Paige Moriarty led the fifth-ranked Diplomats (12-3, 6-0 CC) with five goals and four assists.

Clinging to a 6-4 lead after Paige Meszaros (Hamilton Square, N.J./Steinert) tallied her first goal of the season with 10:44 to play in the first half, Hannah Serling converted a free-position goal just over four minutes later to start a 4-0 run that stretched the advantage to six.

Brownawell finished a solo run with 12 ticks left in the first half before Olivia Geiger (Ellicott City, Md./Marriotts Ridge) trimmed the deficit to four just 1:38 into the second half.

Back-to-back Maddie Hughes tallies started the game-clinching five-goal run, however, with 25:38 to play. Moriarty capped the run with 17:08 showing.

Brownawell went back-to-back 27 seconds apart – the second coming off a Geiger feed – to cut the deficit back to seven with 16:09 to play.

After Katie Groenke and Lindsey Farrell (Towson, Md./Loch Raven) traded goals, Moriarty started another three-goal flurry to get the margin to double digits with 8:03 remaining.

The teams traded goals over the last 5:29 for the final margin.

Annemarie Duerr (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) opened the scoring with 22:47 on the clock before Moriaty and Brownawell traded their first goals a minute apart.

The Diplomats then ran off a 5-1 run to open up a 6-3 advantage with 12:48 to play.

Geiger finished with three goals while Duerr had two.

Geiger and Farrell added six draw controls each.

The Green Terror returns to action at home against Swarthmore on Saturday. Game time is 3 p.m.
