Centenary takes down McDaniel
Eighth-ranked Cyclones win eight bouts
WESTMINSTER, Md. – Charles Cannella recorded a 33-second pin to lead No. 8 Centenary (N.J.) to a 42-6 victory over McDaniel in non-conference wrestling action on Saturday.
The Cyclones (9-1) won eight straight matches, including six by fall to win their ninth straight dual meet.
James Young III (Fairfax Stadion, Va./Bishop O'Connell) and Brock Glotfelty (Grantsville, Md./Northern Garrett) bookended the match with victories for the Green Terror (4-8), who dropped its third match to a top-15 opponent this season.
Young opened the match with a 6-2 victory at 125 before Will Livingston, ranked atop the NWCA individual Division III list at 133 entering the match, recorded a 5-minute, 27-second pin to turn the three-point deficit into a three-point lead.
David Alsiuex extended the lead to six, using a fall late in the third period to key a 3-2 victory at 141.
John Stillo had a couple of attempts to record a pin before using his legs to notch the fall in 2:30.
Oven Vernon extended the lead to 21-3 with a 4-minute, 19-second pin at 157 before Chris Burdge (165), Cannella (174) and JJ Mitchell (184) made it five straight pins to secure the match. Burdge recorded his fall in 4:09 while Mitchell notched his pin in 3:38.
Tim Lutke notched Centenary's final points of the nights, recording an 11-5 victory at 197.
Glotfelty rounded out the match with a 3-2 victory, using a takedown 52 seconds just before the wresters went out of the circle. Joseph Zitone escaped with 15 seconds but Glotfelty held on for his 24th win of the season.
McDaniel returns to action at Ursinus in a Centennial Conference tri-match with Muhlenberg on Saturday. Action begins at 11 a.m.
