Younger but stronger
WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel may have lost a couple of key members from last season's roster. However, the only thing that means for sure is there will be younger wrestlers at some spots in the lineup.
In fact, with the infusion of some newcomers and another year's experience in the rest of the lineup, the Green Terror could actually be a stronger team – top to bottom in 2011-12.
Obviously, fifth-year mentor Davey Blake will have to find a way to replace all-time wins leader Brock Glotfelty in the heavyweight spot but has a strong candidate to contend come February at the Centennial Conference (CC) championship in Joe Camlin (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill).
Earl Eppard (Baltimore, Md./Lansdowne) is the likely candidate as the incumbent to anchor the bottom of the lineup at 125 while Mike Tancredi (Wall, N.J./Wall Twp.), who finished fourth at 141 at the CC meet last year, drops down a weight class. Newcomer Mason Goretsas (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) will likely fill the void by Tancredi.
Sophomore Logan Yox (Westminster, Md./Liberty) was part of a quartet of fourth-place finishers last year at the conference championship and returns as the likely starter at 149, anchoring the middle weights.
Incumbents throughout the rest of the middle weights and into the upper weights will have rookies to push them and compete to win out the starting job.
