O'Boyle, Camlin win one each
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Ryan O'Boyle (North Reading, Mass./Central Catholic) and Joe Camlin (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) both won one match on Friday at the 2013 NCAA Division III wrestling championship but had their season end for McDaniel.
The duo both went 1-2 at their respective weight classes. O'Boyle finished one win shy of making it to Saturday and achieving All-America status as a freshman while Camlin came up two victories shy.
O'Boyle, the eighth seed going into the championship, dropped a 6-3 decision to Derek Adams (Olivet) to open the day and was relegated to the consolation bracket. He started his way back through the bracket with a big third period, finishing it with a pin of York (Pa.)'s Joey Glaccio just before the final horn sounded. Needing a win to make it to Saturday, O'Boyle ran into second-seeded Nathan Fitenreider (North Central), who prevailed 5-0 to eliminate O'Boyle.
Camlin's day started outside of the round of 16 after the random draw of unseeded wrestlers. Jake Ceslick (Olivet) prevailed in the bout 10-7 to relegate Camlin to the consolation bracket. Camlin's first match resulted in a 3-minute, 27-second pin of Western New England's Jamison Sacco. In his next bout, Camlin took a 2-0 lead on Corey James (SUNY Cortland) before his opponent earned a third-period point and was awarded a point on advantage time to force sudden victory. James got a takedown early in the first extra period for a 4-2 win, eliminating Camlin.
