Hollinger makes 10 saves for McDaniel but Seahawks limit Green Terror to one shot

WESTMINSTER, Md. - Sophia Esparza recorded two goals and an assist to lead St. Mary's (Md.) to a 3-0 victory over McDaniel in non-conference women's soccer action on Tuesday.

In the opener for both teams, the Seahawks (1-0) - keyed by 13 shots from Esparza - finished the day with a 19-1 advantage in the shot column.

Leanne Hollinger (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) made 10 saves in net for the Green Terror (0-1), whose lone shot came from Brittany Baer (Manchester, Md./Westminster) in the 51st minute - a look from the right side that sailed just high of the net.

Scoreless through the first 20 minutes, Esparza sent a pass wide left to Liza Sitz, who bounced the ball off the right post at the 20:28 mark to get St. Mary's on the board.

Nearly four minutes later, Esparza found the back of the net, beating the keeper off a long Bridget McGovern pass.

In the 58th minute, Esparza dribbled in and finished from the right side to set the final margin.

The Seahawks added a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.

McDaniel returns to action at Catholic on Wednesday. Game time is 4:30 p.m.
