Sturgill takes six shots
WESTMINSTER, Md. – It took until the 102nd minute for a decision but Goucher found the back of the net to down McDaniel 1-0 in double overtime, non-conference women's soccer action on Wednesday.
Meghan Sturgill (Westminster, Md./Winters Mil) recorded six shots for the Green Terror (4-4), who peppered the goal with 20 shots through the first 100 minutes of the game but could not convert.
Sherlanda Buskey scored of the seventh shot of the game for the Gophers (8-1), scoring just 1:13 into the second extra 10-minute session.
Shay Kettner played a ball from the left end line that Buskey collected at the top of the box and fired into the far side of the net for the game-winnner.
McDaniel had an opportunity to end the game in the first minute of the first overtime, putting the ball. However, the Green Terror was whistled for offsides to nullify the goal.
The best scoring chance in regulation came off a corner kick in the 74th minute when Goucher goalie Juliana Harkavy withstood a flurry of three straight shots to preserve the scoreless game.
Jan Woolley (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) made two saves while Harkavy had six.
The Green Terror returns to action at Ursinus on Saturday. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
