Pope bends one in
WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel built a 3-0 lead en route to a 3-1 victory over Frostburg in non-conference women's soccer action on Tuesday.
Julia Pope (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) tallied her team-leading fifth goal of the season to lead the Green Terror (4-2), who defeated the Bobcats (2-4) for the first time since 2005.
Stephanie Fazenbaker broke up the shutout, scoring her team-leading seventh goal of the season for Frostburg in the 83rd minute.
On a scramble in from the cage, Catherine Wroblewski (Glen Mills, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) put a ball off at least one Frostburg player before it ricocheted off the far post and into the back of the net for a 1-0 lead with 17:17 to play in the first half.
That lead held until Pope left-footed a ball from the right corner of the box towards the net. The ball went straight for the corner of the back post before bending just inside the post and under the crossbar for a 2-0 lead at the 52:18 mark.
Just 1:24 later, Nicole Hill (Bowie, Md./Bowie) finished in front of the net for a 3-0 advantage. Pope played the ball in from the left wing that a pair of Bobcat defenders attempted to clear but sent the ball instead to a waiting Hill, who was able to tap it home.
Haley Jacobs (Forest Hill, Md./North Harford) made a career-high 10 saves in net for the Green Terror.
Frostburg finished with a 27-17 advantage in shots while McDaniel held a 9-5 edge in corner kicks.
The Green Terror returns to action at Bryn Mawr on Saturday. Game time is 1 p.m.
