Sturgill leads McDaniel to third straight win
TOWSON, Md. – McDaniel scored a pair of goals in each half to register its third straight win and defeat Goucher 4-0 in non-conference women's soccer action on Wednesday.
Meghan Sturgill (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) led the Green Terror (6-2) with a goal and an assist, leading her team to its best eight-game start to a season since the 2004 squad also started 6-2.
Liz Stradtman made four saves for the Gophers (2-5-1) in nearly 60 minutes of relief action between the pipes.
In the eighth minute, Christina Wroblewski (Glen Mills, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) found Sturgill on the right side of the box and the junior was able to finish her third goal of the season just 7:31 into the contest.
Sturgill and Nicole Hill (Bowie, Md./Bowie) successfully executed a 2-on-0 with Sturgill finding Hill, who hit the back of the net at the 55:38 mark for a 3-0 advantage.
At the 68:00 mark, Maggie Quinn (Crofton, Md./Archbishop Spalding) matched Hill with five goals on the season, driving a Catherine Wroblewski (Glen Mills, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) pass into the left corner of the net on a breakaway down the left side.
McDaniel finished with a 15-8 advantage in shots and 5-1 edge in corner kicks.
Haley Jacobs (Forest Hill, Md./North Harford) made four saves in 75 minutes of work while Brianna Ferrara (Levittown, N.Y./Island Trees) made one stop in relief to preserve the team's fifth shutout in eight games.
The Green Terror returns to action at Ursinus on Saturday. Game time is 5 p.m.
