WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel scored a goal in each half to defeat Dickinson 2-1 on Saturday and earn a bid into the Centennial Conference (CC) women's soccer tournament.
Julia Pope (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) led the Green Terror (13-5, 6-4 CC) with a goal and an assist to propel the squad into the CC playoffs for the first time in program history. The 6-4 mark in conference play is the best for the team since going 7-3 in 2000 – the year before the tournament started.
Rosalin Savoie scored for the Red Devils (8-7-2, 4-4-2 CC), drawing the visitors even in the 55th minute.
In the 30th minute, Pope found Sam Wilson (New Castle, Colo./Coal Ridge), who headed the ball into the top of the net to stake McDaniel to a 1-0 lead.
The lead stood until Savoie finished an unassisted tally at the 54:57 mark.
Just 6:08 later, Maggie Quinn (Crofton, Md./Archbishop Spalding) found Pope, who finished low for the 2-1 lead.
Haley Jacobs (Forest Hill, Md./North Harford) finished with five saves for the Green Terror, who outshot Dickinson 17-9 on the day.
McDaniel will host Muhlenberg in the first-round tournament game on Tuesday. Game will be determined and announced following the pre-championship conference call on Monday.
